Bios
The personnel of the HELMSMEN QUARTET from western Michigan are:
David Stout is the tenor singer for the Helmsmen. David is married and has one child. He has written a number of songs and the Helmsmen plan on using some of them at upcoming concerts. David is also a fantastic trumpeter. You will hear his renditions at the concerts.
John Davis, a business owner from Sturgis, Michigan sings lead. He has previously sung in local groups. John also sings annually in the city’s Fall and Spring Musicals. John is married and has four children and eleven grandchildren.
Ken Eash, a pastor to families with children at the Sturgis Church of the Nazarene, sings baritone and is the manager of the Helmsmen. He has been the manager of the Helmsmen since its beginning in Illinois in 1969. Ken is married to Lorri and has four children and three grandchildren.
Mark Davis, is the bass singer. He lives in Allegan, Michigan. He owns a commercial janitorial business which the Lord has blessed. His wife, Kathy, and he have six children and nine grandchildren. Mark started singing in quartets as a teenager with his Dad’s quartet, The Kalamazoo Ambassadors Quartet. In the late 80’s Mark moved to Nashville, Tennessee where he sang with his brother, Larry with The Crownsmen. Mark moved back to Michigan in the early 90’s and started his own group, the Cannanland Quartet.
Jerry Malone has joined the Helmsmen as pianist. While doing some solo ministry he has been billed as “Sacred Piano Music At Its Finest” with a touch of Classical, Southern Gospel, Pop, Contemporary and Praise and Worship. Jerry’s first and only bride, Jerri (that’s correct) since 1968 have two married daughters and four grandchildren. Jerry studied piano for 10 years in his youth and played for his first quartet at age 18. Jerry was born and grew up in the St. Louis, Missouri area and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee in the early 70’s to tour as pianist with the Coachmen whose ministry spanned some 20 states. Jerry has been in the Kalamazoo, Michigan area since 1983 and in 2005 successfully completed 35 years in his thriving piano tuning business.
